re: different treatments

A good question. Some people are very sensitive to the medication in my daughter’s case, Cortef. On the traditional 2 times a day and even 3 times a day it made her stop growing and develop "moon face"- a too round and full face. She also couldn’t sleep very well. While I know that being tall isn’t life threatening I worried that there might be other underlying problems if these symptoms were occuring. We switched to 4 times a day and get up at 3am for her largest dose because that’s when the body needs it..not at 10pm. Since the switch she has grown wonderfully and is less cranky, sleeps well and no moon face. WE will need to keep this schedule until she is done growing and then she can be on a more conventional schedule. WE were also able to lower her dose with this schedule. And that is great news as that’s one of the goals in treatment is to keep the hormone levels in correct ranges using the least amount of meds due to the problems with oversuppression: osteporosis, ulcers, and short final height among others. Some people do very well on 2 or 3 times a day dosing and they should stick to it if it works. Cheers, Julia
