Personally I would not go with a necklace on a small child because of the danger of strangulation...I would put the bracelet on his/her ankle (like I've read some other parents have done) if that worked better. My son was 4yrs old when he got his, and it was never a problem for him to wear it. He's gotten so used to it that now if it is off, he REALLY misses it. He is right-handed so I put it on his right wrist from the begining anticipating the day he would start wearing a watch on his left. That way he was always used to it being there. Hope this helps.
