Anyone see Montel Williams this week?

I never watch these shows, but when the topic was "intersexes and surgery", I was curious if CAH would come up and how it was handled. I don't have a girl, so I have no first hand knowledge as to how the docs approach this. At any rate, they had three extreme cases highlighted. Many of which were where the doctor performed surgery without permission, or they were really pushing it very quickly. Finally, they brought out a Ped endo (after putting him in a bad spot, really). I was very happy with him. Without really saying CAH ( he called it adrenal hyperplasia later), he went on to say that most amgibuity is found in females who are virilized. And the biggest concern is to make sure they are producing cortisone and a salt-retaining hormone (it got spooky to hear is described on tv for me at this point). He made a big point to say that these cases highlighted were very extreme as were the doctors in these cases. I liked him for not feeding into the argument and being very even keeled. I was bothered, however, that the panel of people were pushing to do nothing at all for anyone born this way. Just from having listened to the parents of girls here, I felt it was not dealing with the most common cause, but the extreme causes. These panelists were pushing for a "third" sex as being "intersexed". It just seems this was a perfect opportunity to show that MOST cases of ambiguity are not at all related to anything odd......just a condition that can easily be managed. Not to mention that this ambiguity has saved MANY little girls lives by giving a big warning sign. OH well...these shows are for the sensational anyway. Anyway, just passing on what I saw.
