Re: Daughter with CAH

I have 2 daughters with CAH (severe salt wasting 21 hydroxy). Both take cortef and florinef. My youngest daughter was prenatally diagnosed with CAH and I started dexamethasone treatment 2 weeks after conception. I notice that in my oldest daughter she has many aggressive behaviors that seem to come from no where and are unprovoked. I recently read the cortef insert in regards to cortef side effects. "Psychic derangements may appear when corticosteroids are used, ranging from euphoria, insomnia, mood swings, personality changes, and severed depression to frank psychotic manifestations. Also, existing emotional instability or psychotic tendencies may be aggravated by corticosteroids." It's pretty scary that no one brought these side effects up to me. I also wonder if some of her behavior has to do with being exposed to testosterone in the womb since my youngest daughter shows no signs of aggressive behavior. At any rate, when I mention these things to their doctors (ped & endo) I am told it is just her age. I would love to talk to you more about this, please e-mail me. Hopefully this was helpful for you. Don't think your crazy or wrong. You know your daughter best. I will talk to you soon.
