Somebody please help me! My 2 yr old son Connor had an elevated 17OHP in Dec. 9000+ He was put on Dexamethasone for ten days while stopping the Cortef. The repeat 17OHP was 1400+ so they thought it was on it's way down. He was put back on a higher maintainence dose of Cortef. He had his regular check-up on Apr 12 and I received the 17OHP results on the 21st. It was 12,800 (all measured in ng/ml, all at the same time of day) The Dr called and said "This is not good. He is not suppressed. He is not in good control." Needless to say now I'm not in good control, either. I'm on the verge of tears and I know everyone at work thinks I am a lunatic! The Drs think he may be metabolizing the Cortef too fast for some reason and are thinking of prednisone as a maintainence dose. He's back on Dexa for 14 days this time in addition to the Cortef. Dr says the prednisone will suppress growth more but he would rather have him 1/2 inch shorter than not here. I'm terrified that they are going to find something else wrong with him. Do some kids just do this or require something other than Cortef as the glucocorticoid? He's on Florinef too. What I want to know is: When he gets the 17OHP repeated, do ya'll (yes I'm Southern) think I should I ask for a renin, androstenedione, testosterone, ACTH, or anything else? I don't want anything to be missed. Hurry and tell me--I'm getting more gray hair by the minute!!HaHa The labs are going to be repeated on May 6. Email me if possible--3boys@netquick.net Thank you. I am so thankful for this message board. Andrea (Andy)Andrea
