Hello All! My name is Steve. I'm a 28 year-old healthy male from Vermont. I was diagnosed at age 9 of Non-Classic, Non-salt-loosing CAH. Since then, I've seen my pediatric Endo every year or six months and have had blood work done on a regular basis. Throughout High School and college, I saw an Adult Endo to monitor my condition - which has been seemingly non-existant. I've changed drugs over the years from Deltasone, to Predisone, to Cortisone, and back to Prednisone. For the past 7 years, I have NOT seen an Endo but out of curiosity, finally made an apointment with one 2 months ago. It's a good thing that I did this because my 17 Hydroxy level (which should be below 200) was a wopping 2,593 - WAY over where it should be. I was switched over to Dexamethasone and my levels were checked a month later (just a few days ago I got the results back from the 2nd test) and my level is now 17 - yes, 17. Some difference huh? Well, I'm feeling fine, except my appetite is completely through the roof and I've been eating everything in sight since being on Dex. Lets put it this way - I've gained 15 lbs since being on Dex over the last month. It's driving me crazy because I've never weighed this much and it's got me down. I'm getting exercise and trying to cut back on food intake but exercise just makes me more hungry. I'm taking .5 mg of Dex and 10am and 10pm each day. Yes, a small dose, but still - my appetite is incredible! It was determined that I may have CAH when I was 9 becuase I was growing so rapidly and had a bone age at the age of 11 of that of a 21 year old. Lots of growing pains and Charly Horses at night - very painful. Also - early puberty. Grew 5 1/2 inches in one year at one point and by the time I was in 7th grade, I was done growing for the rest of my life. Back then, there wasn't all these drugs to try and prolong growth. They adjusted my prednisone but this didn't stop me from ending my growth. So, stature-wise, I'm short - 5 4". So anyone have any questions or want to chat, drop me an email.
