Let me tell you about ear infections and needy babies!!! I have a 3 yr old daughter(non-CAH) who had ear infections from 4 months to 18 months about every 2 weeks due lovely day-care acquired "virus" causing colds. She was very needy especially during the more severe ear infections. However, she was also a colicky baby for 3 solid months(crying 22 of 24 hours a day). We finally took her into a pediatrician after hours with both of us crying. He said change her formula. We did. 2 days later, different baby. She also had very hard stools on the regular Enfamil formula. You didn't say what your baby was drinking(whole milk, juices) or eating . I have found that when switching both my 3 year old (when she was a baby)and my 6 month old to solid food their stools changed quite a bit. They became a bit more solid. I have a neighbor who also has a 3 yr old boy who drank too much whole chocolate milk and he was very constipated. They stopped most of that and now he is doing well. What does your pediatrician say? Have you tried apple juice (dilute or whole), giving more fruit, etc. As for antibiotics, they typically cause the reverse affect. They tend to cause looser stools, but everyone is different chemically. My 6 month old Son with CAH has had 4 ear infections with colds since March 3. Boy am I stressing too. He always wants to be held during the worst of it. It is not unusual. Hope this helps. Has your doctor used mineral oil for the constipation? Michele H.
