Re: Families with more than 1 child with CAH

I'll answer but my wife, Linda may want to give her own answer later. First, people will think you are crazy for bringing another child into the world with a congenital condition. When confronted with that I simply asked if they thought Jonathan (our older CAH child) should be killed. I continue that if living with CAH is so horrible that we shouldn't have another kid then surely he shouldn't be allowed to live. That's a drastic way to handle it but it just burns me up when people feel they have to play God and decide who is worthy enough to live. Second, since we knew what to expect the Edno was right there and was examining Ginny before she was a minute old. The entire hospital staff that participated suddenly jumped in to emergency mode as soon as Ginny was born. They took her straight to the Pediatric ICU. She was as healthy as a horse and has pretty much always been but being prepared was so much nicer than the trauma we went through with Jonathan. Third, we were experienced with the medicine so things went much more smoothly. Ginny was taking her medicine straight by the time she was 9 months old. Once we switched to the pill Cortef Jonathan didn't have nearly as many problems and has only been to the hospital a few times. Ginny's gone a couple of time in the past few months because we have had at least four different flues hit this area of Oklahoma so far this year. Their doctor appointment are always scheduled in adjoining slots and basicly the doctor is able to take his time because it doesn't take as long for two kids right there in the same room as with two different kids, different parents, different rooms. I haven't found having two kids with CAH overwhelming at all and we have four kids.
