Re: State Testing in Ohio - PROGRESS !!!!

That's great! I know that Illinois has mandatory newborn testing for at least 7 disorders, CAH being one of them. In Illinois, if a baby has a noted problem in the "heelstick" test, they are referred to a specialist. The specialist then refers them to the Dept. of Specialized Services for Children. DSSC then has a case manager visit the child and parents and explain their services. At first I thought that I did not want anyone following my child's life, but the case manager explained the financial assistance that was available. I was actually eligible for financial assistance, and during the first 8 months of my son's life, all his medical expenses related to CAH including his hospitalization, medications, syringes, follow-up visits, etc. were covered by the state of Illinois. We then moved to South Carolina, which does not offer this service at all. I'm not really sure if SC even has newborn screening for CAH (my guess is that they do not). I should find out. I really haven't thought that much about it since I do not plan on having another child soon. Anyway, good work!!
