I apologize for not reading your post more carefully. The first thing that struck me was when you said, " I called the pediatrician who wanted me to bring him in, but I felt that we should just give him the injection at home." I misunderstood the rest and thought you had said that the doctor wanted you to give the injection and you insead kept attempting to give the oral medicine (after rereading the post I found the opposite to be true). We have had many close calls and when the doctor says "Bring 'em in." we jump in the van. Some doctors assume mothers will exxagerate the seriousness of their child's condition. I am a very calm person and my wife picks this up and gives very accurate information to the doctor. They underestimated her seriousness just once and Jonathan almost went into a coma. Since then they always take what she or I say very serious and never assume we are exxagerating. I find, troublesome, the idea expressed by others, that frightening your children should be a factor in decision making. That should be handled by the parents demeaner and not by healthcare choices.
