I think Linda is thinking about Zovirax. I have a 7 month old son with CAH. Both the Endo and pediatrician recommended the chicken pox vaccine. I have a soon-to-be 4 year old daughter for whom I did not get the vaccine. I did not get the vaccine for her because I know that sometimes they are not sure if later in life people will have to get a "booster" for some of the newer (non-tried and true) vaccines like chicken pox. When I was a 24 years old and in college, everyone in my age group had to be re-vaccinated for measles due to low titers. This is where I got part of my reasoning for not getting the vaccine for my non-CAH daughter. I worried that she might be pregnant and the vaccine may not have been appropriate and then she might get chicken pox. I wanted her to get it and not have to worry. Sure enough when I was pregnant with my son she got chicken pox. Thank God I felt I was safe (I had them at 5) and the baby would not be harmed. I am only getting the vaccine for my son because of the possibility of him getting them in his daycare setting at an early age(it went around a 6 month old class 2 months ago) and the incidence of such a high fever. I figure we will try it on him at a young age and later if he happens to get a mild case it will hopefully be just that. I do have friends whose kids got a mild case after the vaccine and some who got shingles afterwards. I hope this does not scare you but it is better to have all the knowledge you can with our kids. Also, if you think your child has been exposed there is something called "VZIG" the physician can try to get to lessen the effects. You have to think the child has been exposed and try to get this vaccine to him/her within 48 hours.It usually takes a litle while for a physician to obtain it but our hospital can get it if we needed it. Ask your doctor. It is not a cure but it helps lessen the severity. They will also try the drug Zovirax.
