Re: Prenatal dexamethasone treatment for CAH

I took the Dex w/ my second pregnancy. I experienced the same side effects as the other women. I did not get any stretch marks though. It was very difficult emotionally! I did not sleep either....I had the amnio done at 18 weeks found out it was a boy at 20 weeks...I was weaned off over 3 weeks.....and then found out he was CAH at 22 weeks. He was born 3/30/99. His a normal happy 3 month old. He is a worse case than my first born, terrrible salt loser! His takes 4 florineff and is on a ton of Sodium Cloride compared to my first. He is thriving and does not seem to have been affected by the dex treatment. It was very difficult at the begining dealing w/ all the CAH issues, I thought since we knew what we were in for it would be easy, but it took almost 8 weeks to get him stabilized w/ his meds etc...he lost a pound and it took a month for him to regain to his birth weight, and he had probably 15 blood draws. He was also hospitalized once for an IV and sodium. As I said he is doing great now, but it was more trying and emotional than I had anticipated. Good Luck.
