Re: new-born CAH baby and saline solution

When my daughter was a newborn I would express a litlle breast milk mix it with the sodium chloride and have her suck it through a infant nipple. Our docotr never wanted us mixing her meds with too much milk because of the possibility she would not drink it all and than you don't know how much med they got. She had a difficult time for the first couple of months, often gagging on the sodium chloride. Then I started mixing the cortef and sodium chloride together in a little shot glass and giving it to her with a syringe. That was much better. The sweetness of the cortef seemed to balance the salt. But when she was 4 or 5 months I tried giving her the sodium chloride straight through a syringe and she took it no problem. She is now 2 years old and sucks down the sodium chloride no problem. It tastes gross to me but she doesn't mind, maybe because she craves the salt.(?).Hope this helps.
