I know at first it is overwhelming to hear the news. It all seems like more than you can bear. But I want you to know that it will get better. The more you learn about this disorder, the more comfortable you will be. Our endo and the experts at Cornell said that the majority of these children handle this disorder very well, as long as the parents are faithfull to give the meds and get regular blood checks with a pediatric endo. I know that it is frightening when they tell you that it is a survival hormone that your child is missing, and that you have to give extra meds when they are sick. But, my child is 3 years old now, and she has handled sickness very well. They are not fragile, it is not like they have immune problems, they just need a little extra help. You will be fine, as time goes by. I feel for you, and wish you and your wife the best. I want you to know that the dreams you had for your daughter can still come true. As devastating as this disorder can be, we are so blessed to have the meds we need to help them live a full and happy life. If your daughter needs surgery, then you just search until you find the doctor you are comfortable with. There are some great surgeons in this country, and people on this board will be happy to share the names of theirs with you. Our pediatric urologist is Dr. John Brock at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. Good luck and God Bless. Congratulations on the birth of your daughter. Don't let this rob you of the joy of having her. You will be able to deal with this, as long as you inform yourself and develop good relationships with her doctors.Cindy
