I too wondered what your drawbacks were, and I am glad someone asked you. However, some of our children can't opt for no surgery. My daughter, as many others I am sure, did not have a vaginal opening. For obvious reasons, this had to be fixed. It was done when she was 3 months old, and they did the clitoral reduction at the same time. Not all surgeons or hospitals can do that at the same time, so we were blessed. I have no regrets. She is 3 years old now, and doing great. She had to have a foley catherter in for 1 week after surgery, so I am glad it was done before she could walk, and before she could realize what was happening. She will not remember looking any other way. She also only required motrin for pain, and really never showed any discomfort. We have not had any problems with UTIs or urinating, although I realize this is a problem for some. I know of a family who was told not to worry about their daughters highly masculinized appearance because her pubic hair would eventually cover it up! As many advances as there have been in medicine, we still have a long way to go. Thanks for sharing your story.Cindy
