Dear Peg, I am sorry that the surgeons misled you about the procedure. what was done to your daughter is exactly the same surgey that was done to me in 1975, and which is still being done now. The only difference now, and this is only since the early nineties, is that they hook the nerves up to an electromagnetic stimlus response measuring device. However, they have no long-term results on how scar tissue might influence the outcome, and what registers on their instruments cannot measure the emotional aspect of response. Surgeons have done an appalling job, by and large, of properly informing parents. I think the only solution is for more groups like this to exist.
