Dear Steve, Like Debra, I too have CAH. I am a 41 yr. old female who has had an experience similar to Debra's. However I have a beautiful and talented 18 year old daughter. The greatest gift you can give your daughter is a strong sense of self esteem. I can understand your wife's difficulty in accepting your daughter's condition but there is no reason why your daughter cannot grow up to have a fulfilling, wonderful life. The key is how you and your wife accept her condition. Being from a different generation, my mother has never quite realized that a. no one is to blame b. having CAH is not the end of the world. I was fortunate to have excellent physicians, family practice as well as endocrinologists. I believe having CAH has made me a more compassionate and understanding individual. Tell your wife to try and emphasize the positive.
