Hi Barbara. We have also been told that there is no generic for Cortef. I don't know about any of the other forms of hydrocortisone like the pills or dex, etc... I do know that there have been times during the Cortef shortages that we have been out of luck to find any and were told there is no substitute. Call your insurance company back and speak with a supervisor. If your insurance company gives you trouble you can use your endo and pharmacist as your biggest allies. Good Luck! Tonia
