Re: Hydrocortisone suspension

Is there a problem with the efficacy of the suspension for some patients? We've noticed a greater tendency toward settling in the last couple of batches we've received, so we've given extra attention to shaking them well. We have been increasing dosages repeatedly over the last several months (at 2 month intervals) for our 4 year old, and yet it doesn't seem to be enough. He's up to the max dosage level in the common range, but his 17 OHP remains high and his bone age has advanced 2.5 yrs in 9 mo. During the Cortef suspension production problem, we used the horribly bitter tablets...but they worked. We've also used a course of dexamethasone to shock his system to reduce the 17 OHP, and he seemed to respond to that. All this leaves us wondering if the liquid suspension isn't effective for him. We have another draw scheduled Sat, so I expect we'll be discussing possible alternatives then.
