I am new to this message board and would really like to speak with you about your experiences with cah. My 2nd daughter was born with ambiguous genitalia. I have a normal 2yr old girl and was expecting another little girl when the ob said she didn't know what the sex was at the birth. I know you all know the shock that follows that kind of news! Fortunately, we are not far from a children's hospital and were sent there the next day. We were given a lot of info when she was diagnosed and I was totally overwhelmed! Adding to the already stressful event was the stomach virus that my then 19 mo old caught the day after I had the baby. I had to keep the two separated and worried constantly that the baby would become critically ill. Everything turned out fine and I eventually stopped worrying about every little thing. I am giving her her immunizations to practice giving her shots so that I will be prepared. I feel confident most of the time that I will be able to handle this appropriately but need reassurances from those who have been through it or are in the middle of it. My daughter had a vaginoplasty, etc at 5 mos old. I have read other messages talking about dialation- our urologist has not told us to do that, is dialation needed in all cases and at a certain time? The impression I got was that if she had trouble accomodating a tampon as a teen then some dialation would be necessary. If you have any insight let me know. Also, if you have older girls, what do you tell them and when? I would just like some reassurances. God's Peace, Jennijennifer
