Re: Dialation after surgery

It sounds like you're a very sensible girl and that you deal well with this condition. It was interesting to read your views because these are the same fears I worry about for my daughter. She's only 8 right now... but the time will come when she will be old enough for sexual activity, childbirth, etc... and those are the times I'm worried about. I'm surprised, though, about the ages mentioned in these messages when talking about dilation. I only had to do this to my daughter when she was about 2 years old. She remembers absolutely none of that now. I can't imagine having to do that to her at the age she is now. It must be very difficult for all of you who are dealing with that. My daughter does not have to have any other surgeries or dilations until she does become old enough for sexual activity - and then she'll just be given an exam under anesthesia to make sure that she has maintained an adequate opening. She has gone for yearly exams under anesthesia for the past 5 or 6 years, and these past few years the doctor hasn't seen any narrowing of the opening or further problems with scar tissue. He believes that she's going to be fine and is holding out hope that even when she does reach the age of sexual activity she will not need any other reconstruction or dilations. We're keeping our fingers crossed.
