Re: prenatal dexamethasone

I took the Dex with my second pregnancy. My first born was born at home, and we did not know he had CAH until he was 10 days old. That was in a state that had newborn screening, and it was almost too late. With our second child, they induced labor and I wanted to be at the hospital, because from sonograms, we could tell our unborn daughter had some problems that would need prompt attention. I have never heard of a crisis at birth, and not only did the Dex help to minimize the physical side-effects of virilization, it also lowered her 17 OHP levels because she was being slightly medicated in utero. She was not in nearly as bad a shape as our first born son, who had double the 17OHP levels without the Dex therapy. Good Luck!!
