Sharon, If a person has a congenital condition, it is there from birth, but may not always present itself immediately. That is one of the wonders of genetics and diseases. I have two children with salt wasting or classical CAH and you would never know it by looking at them. We didn't even know our son had it when he was born, since there was no history of it on either side of the family. The only way we found out was through the Texas dept. of health, which screens for CAH. Anyway, non-classic CAH I believe, is the form of CAH that does not waste or lose salt, therefore it is not as life threatening as salt wasting form. Salt losers cannot retain any salt, which is neccessary to balance out with potassium-no salt, and the potassium goes way up and you risk cardiac arrest. I believe there are cases of non-classic CAH that have gone untreated for a very long time. There is another form of CAH called late onset, and from what I have read, it just comes over a person around puberty or adolescence. I am certainly not an expert in this area, but check out the left side of this board for links with info you may be able to use. Good Luck and God Bless.Nicole
