Re: Intractible crying and timing of surgery in females with classic CAH

I am 35 year old female with classic CAH. In regards to surgery I had clitoral reduction as an infant. I had a second surgery, vaginal reconstruction, at age 14 because I started menstruation and to my shock and dismay I could not use a tampon. To this day I do not use tampons, because I have vaginal dryness and tampons just irratate the situtation. As far as doctors, I had my surgery at John Hokins in Baltimore, Maryland. The surgeon's name is Dr. Rock. He did a fanstatic job; I get compliments from my inftertility doctors. I do not reget having the surgery so late. In fact I am thankful, because I was old enough to have some understanding of what is going on and I was old enough to do my dialation excersises. I do not know how the dialation is done now but back then they custom made inserts for the vagina that you had to insert and move back and forth. You would gradually increase the size. This was very crucial otherwise I would be right back where I started. I find it interesting that you mentioned abdominal cramps. Recently I have been experiencing very intense adbominal cramps. I have never had any cramps in my life, hardly even a menstrual cramp. These pains are so intense they burn and hurt your lower back. They usually happen in between my cycle. It is so intense that when they happen, which is everyday, I want to call an ambulance. Today I am going to my endochronoligst again to complain about the pain. At first, I thought maybe it is gas but now I am not so convinced that gas is the problem. As far as growing up with CAH, I have had a perfectly normal childhood. No problems and very healthy. It was not until my 30's that I have had complications. I experience bladder irratation frequently, menstrual cramps, and now the unexplained lower abdominal pains and infertility problems. I hope this information helps.
