Laurie, it sounds to me like you have made the right decisions. I have a daughter who is 11 who has CAH, non-salt wasting. She has times when she is very ill (when she gets sinus/ear/respiratory infections) and has had 2 adrenal crises in her life. She, too, attends public school. Every year I meet with her homeroom teacher and the other teachers on her team as well as the clinic aide at school and let them know about CAH. I tell them what in particular to look out for and when I need to be called. I also emphasize that in all other ways, my daughter is a normal child. She does play sports(basketball, softball, took horseback riding lessons), participates in school activities, goes on field trips, etc. She wears a medical bracelet and I go on as many of the field trips as I can (I go on ALL out of town trips.) I am her Girl Scout leader because I am more comfortable being with her on camping trips, etc. Overall, she does everything else any other child does. I've talked to my endocrinologist about this and she agrees this is the healthiest way to be.
