Re: Starting School with CAH

We do not have a full-time nurse at my daughter's school. In fact, what we do have is a nurse who visits many different schools in our county. We have a clinic aide in the school. What I do each year is to be sure the following people are aware of my daughter's medical condition - her bus driver, her homeroom teacher, the other teachers on her homeroom teacher's team, the PE teacher, the principal, clinic aide, etc. I got a brochure some time ago from THE MAGIC FOUNDATION and I just copy it and give it to them when I talk to them. Before I give them the brochure, I highlight the most important points. They will not administer emergency medication at our school. I keep it with me. Also, my daughter wears a Medic Alert bracelet. This is VERY IMPORTANT. In the event that you cannot be reached, Medic Alert can give resue/hospital, etc personnel information regarding your child and what treatment may be necessary. Please remember that your child can do all the things the others do. Don't be afraid to let them participate fully. Please read Laurie's message below and my message back to her. GOOD LUCK! I hope you and your child have a WONDERFUL first year of school!
