We have four children, two with CAH. We had decided to homeschool before we had children and the CAH cemented our resolve. I was uncertain as well at first. We bought the first grade curriculum from A Beka, and Sam finished the math quickly and the reading on schedule. My wife did the reading for most of the year and when I took over he was about two thirds the way through. My method worked much faster and he finished quickly. I continued the math using individual workbook I found here and there and finally got some software that prints out work sheets. I basicly got used to the routine with A Beka's curriculum and once finished with that I just did my own. As far as extra-curricular activity goes, Sam is 7 and we are not in a position to be able to get him around to any sports activities. I recently did a web site for a Tai Chi instructor in Australia and bartered the services for his complete collection of videos. All of my kids are now learning Tai Chi from the tapes. They love it. They get lots of social interaction with other kids at church every Sunday, and with their cousins on other occasions. Besides which there are four of them and we plan on having plenty more. It seems to me that the first year with the first kid is a major hurdle, and the first year with any of them is also a hurdle. Learning can build it's own momentum. Samuel now loves to read and do math and will seek out opportunities to learn. We just learned the deaf alphabet and he has fun with that. It's working great for us.Danny Carlton
