Hi, welcome! I, too, am fairly new to this board, but I have found the information here very helpful. I have a 3 year-old boy with salt-wasting CAH. Your child probably became dehydrated during his bout with diarrhea and vomiting. Salt-losers do not retain salt on their own and require medication to help with this. My son is on Florinef. We keep an injection kit with us and it goes everywhere. This is used for stress dosing when the child cannot otherwise keep it down orally. We have used it (Solu-Cortef) when Kyle could not swallow due to sore throat and when he was vomiting and could not keep his oral meds down. It is very important that the child gets his medications and, if he cannot keep it down orally, this injection needs to be done. I have a wonderful pediatric endocrinologist. If you can find one, it really makes a world of difference. A lot of doctors have never dealt with this, much less seen it. When Kyle was first sick, we had never heard of it and neither had the emergency physicians. Thank goodness we had a great medical center near us where they found out what he had. We almost lost him at 10 days of age. I know I haven't answered a lot of your questions, but I am sure you will get a lot of information from a lot of people here. They are very helpful and will probably answer a lot of your questions for you. There are no stupid questions. You need to find out as much about this as you can. Good Luck! Tina S.Tina S.
