Paul, Sorry it took me so long to reply, I haven't checked the board recently. Too Busy! Dr. Koyle at Children's Hospital in Denver did Gillian's surgery and I am very satisfied with him and the results. When my husband and I were making our decision, we had many of the same concerns that you have. Dr. Koyle gave us many good reasons to go ahead and do surgery. From what I understand, scarring is actually less when done at an early age and at our last check up, last week, the doc didn't think we would need to do dialation at all, ever. There is also the psychosocial aspect- our daughter was very masculinized and as she grew older it would have been very difficult to explain to her why she had a penis and yet was a girl. Not to mention the stares every time anyone saw her undressed. We decided that surgery before she was self-aware was the best thing for her and I don't regret that at all. She did excellent through the surgery and she recovered as only children can - speedily! I would be happy to talk with you some more about the surgery if you have other questions.
