Re: IMPORTANT: Medic Alert Info

Thank you for sharing your experience. We all can appreciate any information shared from experience, although I am so sorry yours was tragic. My 9 month-old has been to the ER/hospital twice since July. It all started with vomiting and then his refusal to drink. I cannot stress how important the MAGIC foundation's ER sheet for CAH children has been to us. When we were in Chicago at the MAGIC convention an ER doc followed it to the letter ,and just last week when our son had to be admitted to the hospital the letter was followed. Our pediatrician has made copies for all the other pediatricians in their practice and constantly updates the others as to his experiences with our son. The one thing I have discovered is that if these kids are not hydrated and their blood sugar is low (after vomiting and not taking in adequate fluids) this is when they crash, and boy can they do it fast. Last week when our son vomited ONCE, he began to crash (became limp, pale and his lips turned blue in a matter of 15 minutes). Luckily, my husband works 1 minute away from his daycare and he picked him up, took him back to his office to call the ENDO and gave him the injection. He started perking up after the injection and then my husband took him to the pediatrician's office. At the pediatrician's office he threw up again and by the time I arrived our son looked very, very sick. The pediatrician wanted to admit him right away to re-hydrate. Again, I pulled out the MAGIC CAH ER sheet and he followed it. I am sorry I am rambling but I agree with all you have said. Any invasive procedure in an already sick child can stress them even more. HYDRATION is SO IMPORTANT! Take Care, Michele
