Re: Saliva tests (message for Nicole)

Hi Nicole We do salivary tests every 3 months or when his meds change. Its really simple all our son has to do is spit into a sample tube four times a day. The first one has to be before he has his medication, a drink or brushes his teeth. I'm surprised that they're not more commonly used because they're so simple and there's no discomfort from needlesticks. Excellent for a child. He still has to have blood tests when he sees the endo at clinic but thats only every 6 months and is also used to check the salivary profile. Apparently the place we go to University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, UK, has pioneered this method of sampling. I know that other centres in the UK send samples to Cardiff. Our Consultant endo is Dr Gregory.
