Re: Weight (to Priscilla)

It's strange how similar our experiences are. My daughter is also 7. She takes 1/2 of a .5 mg Florinef per day. She also takes 2 and 1/2 Cortef tabs daily. She is 49 inches tall and weighs 85 pounds. Her weight is something that I have a concern about but try not to let her know it.... She is an athletic child and excels at any sport she tries. She is very muscular, so I know this adds to the weight. What we do at our house is try to maintain as healthy a diet as possible. Of course, with today's lifestyle's, we do eat out a couple of times per week due to our schedules. However, at home, we have all low fat snacks, diet drinks, etc for snacking. Dinner consists of baked or grilled meats and vegetables. We try to keep breads to a minimum. Our endo is not concerned as she is staying on her growth curve which is 75th % for height and 95th % for weight. You asked if it has anything to do with medication. Absolutely! When her Cortef is increased, her appetite increases and she has weight gain. We just don't make an issue of it to her and try to control the environment as much as possible by encouraging activity and having healthy food. I guess we're doing better now. She's gone one year with only a three pound weight gain. It's usually 10-12 pounds per year...... Hope this helps...at least you know you're not alone.
