Re: Emergency - 9 day old baby diagnosed with CAH

My son was diagnosed at 10 days of age and also was jaundiced. The jaundice masked the symptoms of CAH, becasue he was not eating, was more sleepy, etc. I must say that once he was put on meds, the jaundice cleared up very quickly. We have only been readmitted a few times in his 4 yrs. He got RSV at 3 months and was admitted for observation, and when he got rotavirus, he was also admitted fro observation. In both cases, he did really well and bounced back quickly. He broke his leg last winter and did fine with stress doses for 24 hours. All the information can be overwhelming. Just make sure you and your family have information and and good communication with your endo. I would reccomend that your get a letter from the endo to give in ERs. They followed it to the letter for us when he had rotavirus. Before we had that, I felt I had to really get across the urgency in gettin treatment quickly and what we feared. Telling them that he could dehydrate or go into an adrenal crisis without quick treatment sort of got them jumping.
