Re: Precocious Puberty

My daughter is now 11. She has non-salt wasting CAH. We thought possibly precocious puberty when she was 3-1/2. Tests at that time were inconclusive. Tests were done again at 5 which confirmed our suspicions. Since then she has been taking Depo-Lupron shots. This is a monthly injection. At first we took her to the dr and let them administer the shots. For the last 4 years I have been giving them to her myself. We use EMLA cream on the skin first to numb it before giving the injection. We usually put that on about 1 hr prior to giving the shot. She takes the shot in her hip and we alternate each month. Other than soreness (like with any other shot) we have not seen any side effects from this shot. We did notice as she grew that we had to increase the dosage. It was pretty evident because before a month was up she was experiencing mood swings and we were able to determine it was a cyclical thing. Right now we are hoping for 5'2" for my daughter which would be great. I am only 5'1" myself and my husband is 5'8". The shots are very expensive so I hope you have insurance that covers prescription drugs. If you like, you can e-mail me direct and I would be happy to discuss with you in more detail
