Hi Jill! I know exactly what you're talking about. We live in southwestern Ontario. My daughter is now almost 15 and now takes prednisone. When she was first diagnosed at 3 yrs of age, she was placed on hydrocortisone (cortef). We were given the 10 mg tablets and at first I had to half and even quarter the pills. I became quite frustrated not knowing if I was being very exact. I tried to get a 5mg tablet and I was never successful. If you do have a pharmacist saying that he/she can get a 5 mg pill, make certain it is the hydrocortisone.... especially if that is what your child takes. We had a mixup with one pharmacist getting a 5 mg tablet, but it turned out to be cortisone acetate. (The absorbsion rate is different.) I gave it to her, not knowing the difference and needless to say, within 24 hrs, she was not feeling well and after some quick calls around, I switched her back to the 10 mg tablets of hydrocortisone and she was herself again. Anyway, after that episode, I decided to simply do the best I could with dividing the 10 mg pills. This may sound a bit crazy, but I broke only one pill at a time and set the half or quarters aside for her next dose. That way, I felt that over the course of each day, she was getting as close to her total dose as possible. I hope I've explained this okay. Anyway..... what part of Canada do you live in? Do you have to travel far to see a ped endo? We have to travel 2 hrs. to go to London, Ontario and have been very happy with the doctors there. My daughter was never placed on the liquid and I always wondered about it but concern over stability was an issue with me as well. Anyway, my daughter has done extremely well on the tablets. Take care, PegPeg
