Re: surgery

Sarah - my daughter had surgery at 8 months old. It had to be followed by many exams under anesthesia as well as a few other minor surgeries, but overall I don't regret our decision in the least. At birth, we were told we had a son. She was four days old before we knew differently. Obviously, this would have been quite an awkward way for her to grow up. Even now, at age 9, it would have been a prbolem. She has been taking swimming during phys. ed. at school and all the girls change together out in the open. How would she have felt about being the only girl with a penis!? She is a very happy and well adjusted child. Her surgeries were successful and she looks fine. I don't feel that she will have any sexual problems. If anything, I would think her sex life would be more enhanced, being that her clitoris is quite large. Don't mean to be offensive to anyone by being so graphic, but the truth is the truth. The doctor felt it was better to do the surgery while she was young because psychologically he felt it was better, and also because the younger the child the quicker the recovery. My daughter was in surgery for over 6 hours, but the next day she was up standing and jumping in the crib. I can't tell you what to do, I can only tell you how it worked out for us. We followed our doctor's advice and are happy that we did so.
