When our granddaughter (cah, salt-wasting) was 9 mos. old she had her first febrile seizure, and we were baby-sitting, so we had to give her a crisis injection of cortisone then rush her to the hospital. Over the next year and a half she had several more. They were always frightening, especially because of the adrenal crisis. Her mommy, not cah, had her first febrile seizure at the same age and nearly frightened her dad and me to death... same scenario, except she never had adrenal crisis. Her pediatrician did all the tests, concluded that she had the type of nervous system that reacts to fevers. We dosed her with phenobarbital each time(which caused her to become quite manic,) and gave her tepid sponge baths. She outgrew the seizures around age two, just as the doctor predicted. Her child, our grandchild, who is now five, also outgrew the seizures around 2 or so. She doesn't get such high temperatures now. She was never given phenobarbital, thank goodness. Although it is extremely frightening to watch a child convulse, apparantly the adrenal crisis is much more serious and must be dealt with immediately. These little ones can get so very sick so quickly, then bounce back just as quickly with appropriate treatment. Always advocate for your child... the doctor needs to see the entire picture, including the panic the parents experience. Be sure to learn all you can about febrile seizures, the same way you learn all you can about CAH. God bless!ella
