My nine year old daughter has hyperplasia. SHe has just been diagnosed about a week ago. She started getting pubic hair at six years old which I immediately brought to her doctor's attention and also quite a few of his associatesd over the years. Initially, they said don't worry, she may have some male tendancies like enjoying basketball oppsed to cheerleading. No testing whatsoever was done. When she was six and a hlf she developed mono very bad, ear infections every other week, poor concentration, low energy, poor academmic grades, etc. Finally I swithced pediatricians when she was nine and the new doctor, upon seeing her oybic hair immediately ordered the hormones biool test and wrist x-ray. He testrogene level was elevated and bone age was 11 years old and she wasn't even quite nine. She then referred me to the specilaist who inasisted on seeing her ASAP and has told me she is lacking an enzyme somewhere. They will do thet 6-hour blood test next week to determine which one. The doctor then says the only way to control it is by putting her adrenal glands to "sleep" and then we have to give her cortisol by mouth, triple it if she gets sick and give her a shot if she vomits. Can somebody tell me if she would have been tested at six or seven years old and treated if it would have come this far? I am really scared to let her out of my sight once this starts. It could be a dangerous situation. Please, any help would be appreciated. Feel welcome to e-mail me.Michele
