Thanks for your reply Danny. We have read that in some cases when it is not a too difficult operation it can be done as a once off at an early age. Basically it was on the advice of our surgeon and consultant. The thinking is that it is better to do it now if possible from a psychological point of view. That the child will feel normal. They have been doing it this way for years.
