Ugh, another key touch & blanks posted ... sorry. I just called the tylenol/motrin company & talked to an RN there about holding down meds in vomiting. She said and this makes total sense, because we've been told "if the CAH meds have been held down one hour, then you can assume their system has absorbed them." WRONG!!! In any vomiting, it's the stomach lining that is not allowing anything to be absorbed, so even if you have given the meds 3-6 hours before and the person vomits ... there is no guarantee that the meds were held down. She used the example of having given your child dinner at 6:00 pm, and then at 3:00 am or even the next morning ... up comes that dinner ... the stomach lining may not have allowed anything to be absorbed. So .. you can't rely on "the meds were held down one hour, so were absorbed." It's not to just give the IM when meds weren't held down, but to give the IM in ANY vomiting.Anne
