Unfortunately, as in my daughters case, if the CAH is not caught and treated until later (5 years old), the hormone imbalance causes the body to begin puberty. This is not only in CAH children. This drug is injected monthly to put off puberty until the child is of age to reach puberty with her/his peers. It is also used by infertility doctors to treat patients with severe endometriosis (I just saw this on Dateline tonight).
