Sadly my 2 and 1/2 year old daughter died from an adrenal crisis, septic shock from a fever and staf infection. It was very sudden and I don't know how she got the staf infection or why - or if it was a fever from a flu. The ped endo was not on call and the adult endo said to double the cortef and call the regular ped doctor. The ped doctor said to do what the endo said to do because she did not have experience with CAH. I called the endo back because the fever did not go down. He said to stop calling him. I called the ped doctor again - she said wait and see how she was doing in the morning. BIG mistake!! In the morning was too late. She was in a coma - her heart failed - they revived her but it was too late and took too long - 45 minutes and after 48 hours in the PICU - she was brain death - never breathed again on her own. So what the books and presciptions don't tell you is that to just double or triple the cortef may not be enough. Yes- she had been very hard to control. My ped endo was not aggressive -EVEN criminal for not controlling her CAH better. I make me so sad and I wish every day that I had Jessica back. I wish that I had taken her to a better doctor. I wish that I knew more about CAH. Fever more than 3 hours for sure can lead to death....CAH or not.. for a small toddler. The tylenol box does not make that fact clear!! The safest thing to do is give the injection and go to the hospital for IV fluids. More cortisol something is not enough - antibodics and fluids need to be given RIGHT away. preston@kreative.netRoberta
