You are all my answered prayers. I would lay in bed at night and pray I could find someone out there to support me. It was such a huge decision to submit my story. It is such a personal thing to go through. To try to explain to these people I worked with to the new neighbors that I had just moved next to was so hard. My family and close friends were tremendous at supporting and praying for us. There is an unproven fact, that girls with CAH are more prone to play with cars and trucks then dolls, if given the chose. My daughter does like dump trucks and tractors, but still enjoys her dolls and playing house. I know that is normal of any child. But I feel I am constantly trying to defend the sex of my daughter. A comment was made to me after she had her corrective surgery. I was asked if I was going to tell her when she grows up that she was a boy at birth. Well, you could imagine my reaction. This is what I fear. I fear when she grows up there will be someone that asks her that question and makes her doubt who she is. But luckily my pediatrician (my hero) reassures me every time I start to think these thoughts ,that we will tell her at different stages of her life about her disease, and the effects it had on her genitals. But she will take it in steps that she will understand. I also need to give my daughter some credit. That she will grow into a confident adult that will be able to handle the idiots of this world. On a lighter note. (see I started venting) This message is to the moms that still have to watch their children go through corrective surgery. My daughter went through it at 6months old. She did great. I was the one who did awful. Please, before the surgery if you can talk with your doctor about having the anethesiaologist (sp?) about using a caudal block for the pain after surgery. It was new when my daughter had surgery, and I credit it to her speedy recovery. She wasn't drugged so bad and she ate very well. They kept it in for about 2 days. Its like an epideral. And for all who has had that beautiful invention, knows how well it works. She had it done at a Childrens Hospital. Again thanks for your support. It means the world to me. For those who needed my E-Mail it is Mack111@excite.com.
