Re: NIH Study

I sent for the materials explaining the study. My son is currently too young (as i understand it they need to be potty trained prior to entering the study). My son is 18 months old. I am not sure what we will do when he is older, assuming the study is still on-going. On one hand, I like the thought of helping along treatment for CAH. It seems there are so many unknowns and it is so tricky to treat, it would be nice to see improvements. The NIH treatment, to me, seemed very logical and well controlled (not risky to the kids health). They seemed to do every possible test to make sure there are no ill effects. I also liked the fact that my son would be receiving excellent care and every possible check on his health. (not likely something bad would develop without them finding it - whereas now I am always worried about his care). On the other hand, I struggle with making a decision that involves extensive medical tests and "experimental" treatment for my son when he is too young to give his opinion. I find it hard to commit him to (I think it was 3 days of testing) when he otherwise wouldn't need that. I also think I remember some financial obligations (I think med. care was covered but travel expenses not?) Lots of opinion for someone whose son isn't even in the program, huh. We have not been able to get on-line for a month and I guess I am too chatty now. There is someone who visits the board whose child is involved in the study. Maybe they will see this and reply.
