Re: CAH KIDS WHO SEEM LARGE FOR AGE/ADULT HEIGHT

Your son's history sounds very similar to my son's. My son is 18 mo. old. He was born quite big (22 in., almost 10 lbs). and grew alot his first year. His ped and endo weren't concerned because his levels were good and from 3 to 12 months he followed a growth curve of 75% height and 95% weight. I, however, always worried (unfortunately that is me!) I kind of knew his growth would, and should, slow because my husband and I are not tall people. Although we are both fairly "husky" for lack of a better word. I am 5'5'' and my husband is 5' 10". At 15 months my son dropped to 60% for height and 75% for weight. These last few months he dropped to 50% for height and 65% for weight. I was getting a little worried and his ped. pointed out there is only a 1/4 inch difference between 60% for height and 50% for height. Given that they are still measuring his length, there is also some room for error. I try not to worry and also to notice the other non-CAH kids I know. They really seem to go through growth spurts at different ages. Some have a big first year. Others grow more later etc. Both you and your husband sound fairly tall, it doesn't sound too unusual that you would have a taller child.
