Dear Kimberly, A normal and happy life is a pretty tough thing to guarantee or even speculate on. What you do is deal with each day as it comes, and try not to put yourself or your children in a box. His future is limitless, and he will have to decide if his life is happy, just like you do. What you can do is let him be who he is. Encourage him to try to fulfill his dreams - sports, music, books, games, whatever. We all have to pay our dues with school and work, but there is always something he will consider FUN to do. Right now for my 6th grader, learning to play the drums is pretty cool, last year it was earning a Budo Tai Jitsu Green Belt. Next year it may be something else. And that's O.K., the moment she stops dreaming, the moment she stops trying, then I'll start worrying. In the meantime, your sons are busy figuring how to sit up, creep, and the wonders of each other. Enjoy the ages that they are. Believe me, the future holds good and bad times - you can wait until they arrive.
