Re: adrenal crisis and salt-wasting CAH

Yes, non-salt wasting CAH patients can have an adrenal crisis. They probably are not as prone to them as salt wasters, but my non-salt wasting daughter who is now 11 has had two crises in her life. Both times she responded quickly to the Solu-Cortef. Immediately following each crisis we kept her on a stress dose for a day or two and then weaned her back down to the normal dose of medicine. I always keep Solu-Cortef on hand, but am probably not as quick to administer as some parents may be because I know how she goes into crisis and it does not seem to be quite as rapidly as others have described. Also, what may cause a crisis in others (broken bones, etc) don't seem to have quite the same effect on her. Both times with her it has been dehydration from vomiting/diahhrea.
