Re: ob/gyn in Memphis, Tn. area?

I recommend that you contact Dr. Maria New's office. Her web site is listed on the left hand side of this message board (thanks Danny!!). I was told by my OB and by a genetic specialist (very well known genetic specialist in the Washington DC area - Dr. Beck, Fairfax Genetic Institute) that only Dr. Maria New's office and maybe one lab in Texas could do the actual test. Don't panic you don't go to New York or Texas to have the test done but the amnio or CVS sample is sent to Cornell (New York) - Dr. Maria New. I had the CVS done because it is done at 10 weeks and I could get off the dex treatment sooner if was not affected or a boy. I had a boy and he was fine. I first worried that the dex would have an affect on him (don't laugh - I thought it would affect the size of his penis because if it made a female normal then what would be the affect on a boy) but it didn't affect him and I did not have any side affects from the treatment on myself. This was the second time I was on dex because I had a boy (first CAH child - no dex treatment - never even heard of the CAH before), then a girl (our second CAH - I had amnio) and then our third child - a boy with CAH. It is a 25% chance or 1 in 4 chance but all our children have CAH. I love them all (Jessica died sadly at age 2 and 1/2 years from an adrenal crisis and fever - septic shock from a staf infection) but she was a smart, perfect little girl. So more importantly have a good ped doctor and good ped endo. Any OB will do but if you do take Dex and it is a girl with CAH - just watch your weight, blood sugar, blood pressure. Make sure that they give you a stress dose (100 mg) during the delivery. Do no stop taking it suddenly and taper off of it or you will go into an adrenal crisis and shock. Affects - I was very hungry and gained too much weight (watch for blurred vision, and rapid breathing) but I lost the weight after the delivery. High blood pressure and suagr was not an issue for me. But something to watch for and even without the dex treatment. preston@kreative.net
