You mention going to Children's Hospital in Boston. That's where we go to see my daughter's urologist (Dr. Diamond). Dr. Diamond used to work out of U-MASS Medical Center in Worcestor, and when he moved over to Boston we followed him there. She also sees an endocrinologist at U-Mass Medical Center. Her name is Dr. Rosalind Brown. We live in a small town out towards the Springfield area, but I don't mind the extra drive out to Worcestor or Boston to see these doctors because I believe them to be excellent in treating CAH children. They are both very knowledgeable of CAH. My daughter is now 9 years old, and these are the only two doctors she's ever had (pertaining to the CAH issues anyway). If you live in Boston, Worcestor really wouldn't be that much of a drive for you and it might be worth your while to meet with Dr. Brown. Or maybe you could just call and speak with her nurse (Lynn Norris) who I'm sure would be willing to answer any questions you might have. I can give you the phone numbers if you think you might be interested. My daughter has salt losing CAH and she had severe masculinization of the genitals at birth. She is now a very healthy and very active 9 year old. She does not have any weight or growth problems and has never shown any signs of early puberty. We are not strict in a regular medication schedule and her blood tests are not timed to certain hours of the day, topics that I see discussed frequently on this board... but her continued excellent health with none of the problems associated with CAH are enough to show me that her medications are working in the right way for her body. Dr. Brown is a very sensible doctor who knows and understands CAH very well. I know some people might think that her attitude about not insisting I follow a schedule, etc... means that she is too casual about this disease. That isn't so. Each child is different... and if a child had frequent problems or illnesses, or signs of growth and weight disorders, then I'm certain Dr. Brown would devise the best plan for that child. We are doing what works best for THIS child. I'm telling you this only so that you don't get the wrong idea about thinking Dr. Brown is too casual in treating CAH. She isn't. She's very serious and dedicated to what she does, and she treats many CAH children. She knows what she's doing, and I trust her completely. My daughter's excellent progress is the only proof I need. If you have any questions, feel free to e-mail me and I'll answer whatever I can.
