Well, I just thought I'd add my various comments to the mix. My mother has never had ANY reservations about increasing my dosages when sick. At the first sign of a fever, it's doubled or tripled. I've never had to have an injection when not vomiting, the increased dosages have always taken care of it (I have non-saltwasting, that might be why). When I do need an injection, we're fortunate. My next door neighbor is a nurse and has no problem with coming over to give it to me. My mom had been learning how to do it herself when I was little, but after watching her practice on an orange I flatly told her that she would never get near me with a needle. When I do need an injection, my neighbor always has me lie on my stomach and gives it to me on the back part of my hip (kinda at the point where your hip ends and your butt begins). I haven't needed an injection for a long time now, although we did use one of the Act-o-vials when I had my wisdom teeth out this summer. They gave it to me right in the office, just to head off any possible problems. I also had appendicitis last spring, and they were giving me MASSIVE doses of Cortef (50mg/hour) for a while. (My endo said they overdid it a wee bit, but he didn't mind since it wasn't going to hurt me.) A day or two after the surgery I was back to normal doses.Mara
